Statistics & Facts
You are having a great time with friends, relatives, associates or clients, and you have a little too much to drink. It happens to the best of people. You think you’re ok enough to drive and you have obligations in the morning, so you take it slow and drive home anyway.
What you probably don’t realize is that you were over the legal limit for B.A.C. a couple drinks ago. Sure, you may feel ok but that doesn’t matter to a breathalyzer. In Colorado Springs, you can be arrested for DWAI (driving while ability impaired) and that B.A.C. limit is .05. That is less than 2 beers for your average size person.
Beginning Jan. 1 2009, if you get a DUI in Colorado Springs and you blow a B.A.C. of .17 or higher, you will have to pay for the lease and installation of a breathalyzer machine in your vehicle if you want your license back. This new requirement will affect everyone that gets a DUI, even if it’s their first one. We will let you know what the costs of this equipment are when we find out, and we think the monthly fee is around $60. The DUI just got more expensive.
